If chat adjudication is used to contest a ticket and a decision is rendered, you must follow the next step in the adjudication process. The ticket cannot be contested again using online adjudication, appearing for an in-person hearing or submitting an adjudication request by mail.
If you are held liable, you have 30 calendar days from the date of the hearing record to ask for reconsideration. Your request for reconsideration must be received by DMV within 30 days.
DC DMV verifies the identity of customers prior to in-person hearings. However, it is not possible to verify the chat user’s identity prior to starting a session. DC DMV is required to adhere to the provisions of the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act and will send the decision by mail to the address of record for the registered owner.
If you leave the chat waiting room before the hearing examiner starts the chat session, you may still contest the ticket online, in-person, by mail or chat adjudication before the 60-day answer period ends.
If there is a system outage or the hearing examiner loses the connection with the user before the session ends, you may still contest the ticket online, in-person, by mail or chat adjudication before the 60-day answer period ends. It is the registered owner’s responsibility to contest the ticket in a timely manner under these circumstances.
If chat adjudication is started and there is no system outage, or the hearing examiner does not lose the connection with the user before the session ends, a decision will be rendered, regardless of whether or not you remain online. The hearing record will be mailed to address of record.
By acknowledging this agreement , you are indicating that you have read and agree to the terms and conditions for chat adjudication and are verifying that you are the registered owner of the vehicle or have authority from the registered owner to adjudicate the ticket.
